Yeah... that's probably the reason. I paid for an actual phone number from Gizmo/SIPphone for my area code and it works just fine. In fact, I use it in conjuction with GrandCentral for about 6 months now for free, out bound calls. Just use your address book in GrandCentral to place a call out and select your configured Gizmo line to receive the call once GrandCentral makes the connection [<a href="http://www.grandcentral.com/howitworks/gizmo" rel="nofollow">More Details</a> -- FYI, your Gizmo phone number will appear in your contact's caller ID].

Hmmm...It turns out I had a "Basic775" number through sipphone/Gizmo. Apparently those numbers had some kind of limitation which seemed to prohibit them from working with ATA boxes. I wonder if that's why I could never get it to work with Ekiga. In any case, I dropped my Basic775 Gizmo/sipphone dial-in number and ended up going with another SIP provider for dial-in service. Ekiga is still my linux box client of choice. Thanks for this HowTo and forum.

@Leigh - Yes, your Ekiga phone will ring when someone calls your "CallIn" phone number from Gizmo/SIPphone. Reason: it's tied to your gizmo SIP number which you have Ekiga configured to use.

I also have a casio and I convert the video into DV not to lose quality. It works perfectly when I import it into cinelerra.

Here is the command line I use through a right-click button with kde/konqueror service menu :

#!/bin/sh
mencoder -o $1.avi -oac pcm -ovc lavc -lavcopts vstrict=-2:vcodec=ffv1:autoaspect -xy 720 -zoom -vf scale,expand=720:540,dsize=4:3 $1
ffmpeg -threads 2 -i $1.avi -s 720x576 -r pal -aspect 4:3 -ac 2 -ar 48000 -pix_fmt yuv420p -y $1.dv
rm $1.avi

This is for 4:3 PAL video material; for 16:9 and/or NTSC, customize accordingly (or improve the above script to take/set parameters).

Regards,

Thank you so much for the guide. It really made installing media codecs easier (and even works with hardy, which I used.) Thank you so much.
