RateItAll.com Presentation at SF New Tech Meetup
Interested in building traffic and credibility for your website? Have a listen to RateItAll.com CEO/Founder, Lawrence Coburn’s presentation on the site’s new “Distributed Rating Widget†at this month SF New Tech Meetp. The new widget is essentially a feedback widget that enables RateItAll members to rate and comment on your site dynamically without jumping to RateItAll.com. It also embeds community/profile features and rewards those who review your site via revenue share (member must have their own Google AdSense ID to participate). But more importantly, every review made on your site is available through the widget, your site is automatically listed in the RateItAll blog directory, and your site will be prominently displayed in the hotlist if it’s getting frequently reviewed. Truemors.com Presentation at SF New Tech Meetup
Guy Kawasaki (a VC & marketing legend), CEO/Founder of Truemors.com chatted about his new Web 2.0 venture that cost him less than $13K to make at this month’s SF New Tech Meetup. The full cost breakdown can be found in his blog post, “By the Numbers: How I built a Web 2.0, User-Generated Content, Citizen Journalism, Long-Tail, Social Media Site for $12,107.09.†Overall, the best part of the presentation was not the intricacies of how Truemors.com functioned (though it was interesting to hear that the majority of users preferred to use an online form to contribute content, as opposed to mobile text or voice), but what it took to get it the site started and how the business of “the startup†has changed. When to Sell or Not to Sell a Web Property
Today I was asked for my advice by a fellow web publisher if he should sell his web property, which he’s devoted four years to as a side project, or if he should take it more seriously and put all his resources into it. He was also curious if I worked on eHomeUpgrade on a full-time basis or as a side project as well. Below is my response. MORE »

Tips for Transcoding Cinelerra Compatible Video with FFmpeg, MEncoder
I just wanted to post the fruits of my labor so others could benefit. A little background first… for the past couple days I’ve been banging my head against the wall trying to figure out how to take the video produced from my digital camera (Casio Exilim EX-S500) and convert it to a format that Cinelerra (project page) would be able to work with – the following also applies to any video downloaded from the Internet. Yeah, yeah… I know I should buy a REAL camcorder. MORE »

The Smart Way to Balance Ad Network Banner Ads with Google AdSense
Not too long ago I had an interesting conversation with an ad network account manager from Gorilla Nation Media (a fine company who I’m no longer with) who told me that the company was amending its policy on web publishers using default Google AdSense “image ad†code in areas where the network had graphic/flash banners. Of course, I had to ask why since my current network, NetShelter, had no such restriction in place. It turns out ad clients got wise to the fact that they could get a better deal – or extend their ad dollars – by using Google AdWords to buy image ads (which now include Flash animation and video) on the same properties at drastically reduced prices from the market rate networks were justly trying to get for their publishers. My thoughts on eHomeUpgrade’s 2007 Readership Survey Results
It was about three months ago when I first posted the announcement of our Readership Survey on eHomeUpgrade. The purpose was to get a pulse on the readers’ interests, recommendations for site changes / additions, and general demographics. Overall, the response was pretty positive. And, as it turns out, eHomeUpgrade is satisfying the majority of readers with the direction of the site. Yes! MORE »
